Friday Letter December 12, 2014

Happy Friday! The students did a wonderful job at the Winter Concert last night!  I am so proud of them.

As you may know, we have been having a tough time with sicknesses lately.  This week, we talked about how & when we should wash our hands.  Please remind your child of good hand-washing practices at home.  I want everyone to be healthy for the Winter Break.  From now on, I am asking students to bring their water bottles home everyday with them to get cleaned.

Here is a re-cap of what we did this week:

Math: We have been working on improving our mental math with skip counting.  This week, we worked on skip counting by 5’s and next week we will work with skip counting by 10’s.

Reading:  We started our Mo Willems unit this week.  We began our study with the Piggy and Elephant series.  Students will be working on fluency as they read these fun books.  This week, we became familiar with the characters.  We started to talk about character traits.  Students also did their weekly reading centers: word work, handwriting, and a book work activity.

Writing:  We have been working on stretching our sentences.  This week, we worked on adjectives.  Adjectives can make our sentences more detailed and sound better. We will continue this next week.

Social Studies:  Students have been sketching their banyan trees all week. On Thursday, students were able to work with their reading buddies on them.  Today, we plan on starting the actual project.

Have a wonderful weekend! Andrea
