For our science unit on sound, students learned about the condition called synesthesia. People who have synesthesia, can see colors when they hear music and hear music when they see colors. We studied the Russian artist, Wassily Kandinsky, who was born having synesthesia. Kandinsky strived to evoke emotion through the use of different colors in his paintings. We looked at his painting, Circles, and created a collaborative art piece for our art auction at school. Each student was given a blank circle. Using oil pastels, they drew smaller circles within the template using different colors. After, students painted between the circles using water colors.
